BIO
Vanessa Paige is the Executive/Artistic Director of Soundance Inc and of Vanessa Paige Dance/Theater. Since relocating to NYC in 1997, Ms. Paige’s dances have been shown at venues including Joyce SoHo, Danspace Project at St. Marks, Spoke The Hub, Movement Research, The Kitchen, Broome Corner Studio, WAX (Williamsburg Arts neXus), BAX (Brooklyn Arts Exchange), Offspring Festival, Greenwich Village Arts Festival, DanceNow, Joe's Pub, the Hudson Guild Theater, Brooklyn School of Music, 92nd Street Y, d.u.m.b.o Dance Festival, Williamsburg Arts Festival and Surf Reality. Internationally, her work has been presented in Guatemala and in various theaters in London. England.
She has also produced 4 full evening seasons of choreography for her 12 member company, including Cocktail Dances, Seraphic Sabbatical, Hurry Up Please, It’s Time, and Graces, Fates and Furies. She also created the popular and much-toured “Light As A Feather….Stiff As A Board”, a piece based on research done by the Gender Project about the contrast between male and female experiences in the dance world.
As a soloist, Ms. Paige's one woman show, All Of My Stories Are True, was fully produced at the Jose Quintero Theater.
Ms. Paige grew up in scenic Penn Yan, NY and received her BA in Dance and English from Hamilton College. Upon graduation, she was accepted as a full time professional dancer with the Capital Region’s eba Dance Theater/Maude Baum and Company Dance Theater. Through eba, Ms. Paige performed the works of Maude Baum, Isadora Duncan, James Cunningham, Cliff Keuter, Charles Weidman and Kevin Wynn throughout the Northeast and in Russia and Turkey. She also created several works for Maude Baum and Company and served as an eba teaching artist.in public schools. She also spent 10 years teaching at Young Actors Guild under the direction of Mary D'amico.
While in the Capital Region, Ms. Paige was also the co-founder of the Choreographer’s Asylum, through which she produced several seasons of performance art, including an evening of women and humor and a festival of live alternative music and dance.
Through Soundance Inc,, Ms. Paige curates a variety of themed showcases of choreography/performance art at Soundance Studio Theater, a rehearsal and performance space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In addition, Ms. Paige recently celebrated her 15th year on the faculty of the Berkeley Carroll School.
